2010 – Top 20 Tamil Songs >> 15 – 11

15. Arima Arima (Endhiran)
MD: AR Rahman
Singers: Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam

“Adi kachai kaniye pandhi nadathu kattil ilai pottu”

Love the way Hariharan delivers the above line. Rahman and Hariharan, the dream duo, pair up after Sivaji (Vaaji Vaaji) to produce this gem that will erect your spine the moment it gets launched with those sharply swaying trumpets. Bringing out grandeur in a song has always been a piece of cake for Rahman, Kappal aeri poyachu, Mudhalvane being prime examples, and he does it with style once again. Oh, and in a Rahman song, how could I go away without spotting his tiny masterstrokes? Listen to the 30 second interlude from 3:28. A treat for his fans!

March ahead gorgeously with Ennnndhiraaaa!!!

14. Iragai Pole (Naan Magaan Alla)
MD: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Tanvi Shah

Something special lurks beneath this song, which I can’t really spot. It sounds so light yet has a punchy groove all along. Probably the tempo that changes back and forth is a real charmer. A cute song with simple lines complemented by some neat singing by Yuvan unlike sometimes when he tries too much at higher pitches. This song gives me the impression that it exists like beautifully disjointed fragments which eventually gel together for completeness. This is so fulfilling.

Lite and romantic!

13. Naan Pogiren (Naanayam)
MD: James Vasanthan
Singers: SPB, Chithra

SPB and Chitra! What do you say about them? Flawless together aren’t they? Thanks to James Vasanthan for bringing them back together for this lovely song that gets sweeter with every second listen. The rhythm reminds me of MJ’s “Will you be there”, which is so apt for a breezy melody. One of the best night melodies there is.

Sweetener!

12. En Jannal Vandha (Theeradha Vilayattu Pillai)
MD: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Singers: Divya, Priya, Roshni, Pan Bundy

Three different moods in one song, blended with brilliance. Yuvan has rocked with this song in every sense. Three kinds of characters sing in their own style – soft, sexy, and punchy. Each mood is interluded with a rap which is quite difficult to grasp by the way. And my favorite part is the dappankuthu at the end. This is an all-out, free spirited effort by Yuvan.

One cracker of a song!

11. Thaakuthe (Baana Kaathadi)
MD: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Singer: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Frisky right from the word go. A peppy solo effort by Yuvan once again. He has been singing a lot of solo songs lately and with success too. A few songs suit his range and a few don’t. But this little song fits him like a glove. You could hear this in endless loop and still feel fresh.

Cool and refreshing!!
